Ultraviolet (UV) light is found naturally in sunlight and its radiation may cause polymers such as plastic and certain types of cloth including nylon to degrade. This means that prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause discolouration, fading, cracking, tears and in certain cases total disintegration of the product.

TiO2 protects paint, plastics and textiles from damaging UV rays

Many pigments and dyes also absorb UV light. Over an extended period of time, this may lead to a change in surface colour.

TiO2 coated surfaces can approach 100% absorption (90% absorbed 10% scattered) for example that would be a rating of SPF 50+ on textiles.

This is done by absorbing UV rays and changing them into small amounts of heat which dissipate quickly without damage to the structure of coated surface, being able to absorb and scatter UV rays, it protects all surfaces from damage caused by UV light. This ability prevents further degradation of the product due to UV damage.
